Signing in to the MGI

We recommend you sign in to the MGI using an incognito window, also known as a private window. This is because many users use their own Microsoft accounts for work or personal use, or have other credentials cached. Also, if you are using another laptop, that user may be signed in to their own account. If you try to sign in to the app, you may be signed in to a cached or currently logged-in account and not the account you are trying to use to access the MGI.

Using Incognito

(Note: the following instructions are for Chrome but will be similar across browsers. On Microsoft Edge, incognito browsing is called InPrivate Window. On Safari (for Mac) and Firefox, it is called Private Window.)

From the browser icon shortcut:

  1. Right click the browser icon on your toolbar (control click on a Mac).
  2. Select the Incognito Window.

From within a browser:

  1. Click the three dots control icon on the top right corner of your browser, then select “New Incognito Window”.

If you are unable to sign in through an incognito browser or do not wish to:

  1. Check that you are not already signed in to Microsoft by visiting https://www.office.com/
  2. If you are signed in, go to office.com, sign out using the account icon in the top right-hand corner, and then close your browser.
  3. Re-open your browser.
  4. Check again to make sure you are not signed in.

Signing in to the App

  1. Sign in to the MGI by clicking here
  2. Enter the credentials that your system administrator has assigned to you.
  3. Enter your email. You may be asked to enter your password, or you may be asked to enter a verification code that will be sent to your email.
  4. You may be prompted to use an additional method for sign-in, such as a code sent to you via text, or approving a push notification from an app, due to multi-factor authentication.

Multi-Factor Authentication

Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA), also known as two-factor authentication, is a method used to increase the security of your online accounts. The first factor is your standard login information. The second factor uses an alternative method of authentication such as a phone, a code, or other registered device to verify your identity. Multi-Factor Authentication ensures greater security over your account. You will be asked to use a second method to sign in to your account to help prove you are the one signing in. You or your system administrator will have set up Multi-Factor Authentication when you created your Microsoft account. Ensure you have access to your device that has been set up with the Microsoft Authentication App or the DUO app.

If you are using the DUO App, ensure you have access to your DUO app. For more information on DUO, see Guide to Two-Factor Authentication – Duo Security.

If you are using the Microsoft Authenticator:

Here are the steps to set up the Microsoft Authenticator:

  1. Download and install the Microsoft Authenticator app to your mobile device.
  2. In a browser, sign in to your Microsoft account security dashboard.
  3. Click on Add a new way to sign in or verify.
  4. Select Use an app.
  5. Select Next to display a QR code.
  6. In the authenticator app, select more options [three dots] then select Add account.
  7. Choose the account type.
  8. Select Scan a QR code then scan the QR code from step 5.
  9. Select Finish on the browser to complete the setup process.

FAQ

I can’t access my account when I sign in.

If you have successfully signed in to the MGI but are seeing a message that indicates you cannot access your account, there may be an issue with your login. Notify your system administrator and they may contact us for more information.

I can’t sign in.

If you can’t sign in to the app, you may be logged in to another Microsoft Account that does not have access to the MGI. Try to sign in with your account in the browser’s incognito mode or log out and then clear your cache (see additional cards for more information).

I’m using a browser that does not have or allow Incognito mode.

Some districts may restrict incognito windows, or you may not wish to use them. To access the MGI, you need to sign out of your account and then clear your cache. To do this, go to office.com and then sign out with the circular icon at the top right-hand corner. Then, follow the instructions to clear your cache.

If you have access to another device that is not signed in to a Microsoft account, you could try signing in to the app from that device: https://apps.powerapps.com/play/e/0f1a65f3-9c7a-4769-8de6-3728e1c58c96/a/4692e78e-5fd1-488b-8aea-8d607176f756?tenantId=5ba66d5c-2b20-4605-ade8-e372cbdfdcbd.

I need to clear my cache.

You may need to clear your cache after signing out of another Microsoft account to ensure the old log-in details are not stored. To clear your cache, follow these steps, which are dependent on your browser: clear your cache.

I’m using another person’s laptop.

If you are using another person’s laptop, their Microsoft login credentials may be stored on their device. We recommend you sign in to an incognito window if you are using another person’s laptop. If you are unable to use incognito mode, with their permission, you can sign out of their account from office.com and then clear their cache. Then, access the MGI and sign in with their device.

I do not have access to my Multi-Factor Authentication method.

If you are using Multi-Factor Authentication and do not have access to your multi-factor authentication method, such as your phone, email, or an MFA app, you will not be able to sign in to the MGI until you regain access to that sign-in method. You may wish to contact your system administrator for more information.

What is Multi-Factor Authentication?

Multi-Factor Authentication is a sign-in method that uses more than one authentication method to log in to the device. The methods could include, but are not limited to, passwords, inputting a code that is sent to your phone via text or sent to your email, approving a push notification through an app, and more.

Why do we need to use Multi-Factor Authentication?
Multi-factor authentication improves security by requiring multiple verification methods to access your account. This is to ensure that if one method is compromised by a cyberattack (e.g., someone learns your password), there are additional steps that will prevent unauthorized users from signing in to your account.
I forgot my password.

If you forgot your password, you will be unable to reset it in the MGI. Please contact your system administrator for help.

I got Error Code 1200.

If you see the error code 1200, please wait 30 seconds, then refresh your browser. If this error code persists, please try signing in to your account using a private browser or incognito mode. After signing in to incognito mode, if the error code persists, please contact MHS.

I got Error Code 504.

If you see the error code 504, that means your report was unable to complete generation. Please regenerate the report. If you see this error again, please contact MHS to report it.

I got Error Code 200.

If you see the error code 200, that means your report was unable to complete generation. Please regenerate the report. If you see this error again, please contact MHS to report it.

I got Error Code 202.

If you see the error code 202, that means your report is still being processed. Please try to access the report again in 4-6 minutes.
